This cross-board Mergers M&A brought together over 50 industry stalwarts and 400 guests, some world’s top dealmakers, private equity, institutional investors, legal and investment banking professionals to discuss the dynamics of Global Economics from Leading emerging markets to what is happening in Wall Street and Washington. The event happened in this intense October month here in New York - 9 and 10 - at the New York Athletic Club and among very key and interesting people were Mario Garnero, Chairman, Brasilinvest; Alexis Rodzianko, CEO, IFC Metropol; Rajiv K. Luthra, Founder & Managing Partner, Luthra and Luthra Law Offices; and Wang Wei, Chairman, China M&A Group.
In the panel, Brazil – M&A Market Report, the moderator was Francisco J. Cerezo, Chair – Latin America Practice Group, Foley & Lardner. Panelists were: Cesar Coller, Managing Director – BRIC Fund, Siguler Guff & Company; Karyn Koiffman, partner – Latin America Practice Group, Baker Mackenzie; S. Wade Angus, Partner, Jones Day; Ambassador Clifford M. Soberl, Managing Director, Valor. In synthesis panelists appointed Brazil as an entrepreneurial country with leadership and a strengthening democracy. Although the economy has slowed down, news laws have been enacted and the expectations are that the country is going to be the largest export of grain in the world in the next couple of years.

After becoming Director of Volkswagen do Brasil in 1979, Garnero chaired the National Automakers Association and subsequently chaired the national Confederation of Industries. Credited with the development of the Brazilian Ethanol program resulting in over 90% of Brazilian automobilies operating on ethanol fuel, Garnero is today recognized as the Father of the Ethanol car. As the Chairman of NEC do Brasil in the beginning of the 1990s, Mario Garnero was also pioneer for the introduction of movile phone technology to Brazil. Today, in addition to leading Brasilinvest, Mr. Garnero is also the chairman and founded of the Forum das Americas, Brazil’s premier think tank on democracy and regional economic integration and the Chairman of the United nations Association – Brazil. He has written several publications, including Brail in the world – Views on Brazil’s Role in the Global Market, which has become a global business reference book.
